Essential Homework

1. Analyze your future position

Write down all your future responsibilities (your Kelly consultant will give you a detailed description of the job, including skills required).

Ask yourself:

  • Do I understand indeed, what people expect from the person in this position?
  • What are the purposes of this position?
  • What are the ways for reaching these purposes?

Remember to make a note of any questions to ask and points you want to cover at the interview.

2. Asses yourself

Think over the answers to the following questions:

  • What are your career strategic purposes?
  • Are they meet the position purposes?
  • Why are you interested in this position and in this company?
  • Can you prove that your skills match the position?
  • Which of your personal qualities make you suitable for this position?
  • Do you need this job indeed?
  • Why do you think it is worth for the company to hire you, but not somebody else?

3. Find out as much as you can
You should find out as much as possible about the company and its business. This will help you to decide if you really want to work with the company and to prepare to answer interviewer's questions.

4. Look through the potential questions to ask (see Questions List), and rehearse your answers with a friend or your consultant (use concrete examples, figures; don't use common phrases).

5. Employers' Expectations It would be useful for you to know, what the company representative expects to hear from you during the interview. In most cases he will ask the following questions: himself 1) Personal impression

  • Will this person represent our company efficiently?
  • Will he look professional and serious?
  • Will it be pleasant for me to work with this person?
  • Will his colleagues and our clients be eager to work with him?

Competence

  • Can this person cope with this job?
  • Does he have enough knowledge and appropriate experience?

Communication skills

  • Will he be able to get on with colleagues well?
  • Will he be able to communicate clients efficiently?

Motivation/Enthusiasm/Responsibility

  • How much does he want to get this job?
  • Is he as hard-working as he shows at the moment?
  • Will he stay with us for a long time to make profits to the company?

Leadership

  • Is this person able to be responsible for our company?
  • Will he be a leader for other employees?

Maturity

  • Does this person have a problem-solving ability?
  • How would he behave himself in a problem situation?

6. On The Day of The Interview

  • Put on a business suit - clothing should be appropriate for the position you're seeking.
  • Plan you route and give yourself plenty of time, aiming to arrive with 10-15 minutes to spare so you can check your appearance in the cloakroom, take a note of your surroundings and relax.
  • When you meet the interviewer look directly at the person, smile and give a firm handshake.
  • Take your notebook and a pen to make notes on points as they arise during the interview and to write down answers to your questions.
  • Ask appropriate job-related questions. Review your notes and ask final questions to bring up your relevant strengths.
  • Show decisiveness. If you are offered the job, react with enthusiasm.
  • When you are interviewed by more than one person, be sure you have the correct spelling of their names. "I enjoyed meeting your colleagues, Mr… Could you give me the correct spelling of their names, please".
